Views on South University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) have been divided on whether to consider it a rebel or a contributor to the Chinese educational system. The Shenzhen-based university operates differently than other colleges, with English as the official language on campus and the ability of the administration to process students’ applications individually. The university made headlines when five years ago, 45 high school students across China rejected the National College Entrance Examination, showing support to the then-newly-built SUSTech. What has the university done during the past years? What goals has it met? CCTVNEWS revisited SUSTech to find out about the journey of the university that has been surrounded with controversy. SHENZHEN, CHINA — Either because of corruption or simple negligence, officials chose to ignore the 380,000 square metres of construction debris that towered over the outskirts of one of the most populous cities in China. That is, until everything came crashing down on Sunday, when a massive wave of mud and construction debris blanketed 33 buildings and scores of people who were unable to escape fast enough. According to officials at the Ministry of Land and Resources, the incident was not a natural landslide. Instead, a mound of construction waste on a hill in Shenzhen's outskirts toppled over and collapsed, sending a mudslide down the length of the hill that crashed into the buildings below. Several years ago, the location of the landslide was a quarry. But because dumpsites were neede...

SHENZHEN, CHINA — A building site on a US$45 billion construction project, located in Shenzhen's Qianhai district in China collapsed last week. The dramatic video captured by workers at the site shows the building site slowly collapsing. No injuries were reported from the incident, the Telegraph reported. Sources quoted in local media said the collapse was reportedly caused by soft soil around the site, according to the Telegraph. The project is part of a planned international finance and commercial district, some are calling the Manhattan of the Pearl River Delta. The Chinese government hopes it will rival and, even replace, Hong Kong's Central District. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on...

Shenzhen is a great city, situated opposite Hong Kong in southeastern China. It is one of the biggest destinations I have arrived at so far, marking the last big city before I get to Vietnam. Ill be hanging out here for a month while I accomplish some mini “goals”… I have a talk at a international school, some road testing of the trike, a workout regiment, some visits to Hong Kong and a bunch of other things. So follow me as I take an initial ride of the city. All the points in this video are mapped out on the JaYoe Map page, so if you are interested to go exploring yourself… you will know where to go. Check out the map page at: http://jayoe.com/map/# If you are interested in getting the recumbent trike I use, do not hesitate to click on this link - http://jayoe.com/hpvelotechnikdir...
Today's itinerary: OCT Bay, Shekou Sea World, Houhai Area, Nanao Ancient Town, Europe Town for a quick stop at IKEA for lunch, driving along Shennan Blvd., Dafen Oil Painting Village, Longhua New District/Bantian I rented a car again to show Dirk and Jessy a bit around in Shenzhen before they were going back home. They were exploring the city before by metro and visited places like the Shenzhen Museum, Lianhuashan Park, Lichi Park, Window of the World and the two major shopping areas of Dongmen and Huaqianbei on their own. So it was time to shown them a bit more of Shenzhen and it's different places and faces. Shenzhen is always referred to as a city without history that went from a fishing village to a modern metropolis in 30 years. But there is far more to see, explore and discover then...
